Grampians Emergency and Critical Care
Welcome to the Grampians Emergency and Critical Care website.
Remote locations, varying local hospital resources and the complexities of transporting critically ill or injured people over long distances - all of these create unique challenges for those involved in emergency care in the Grampians Region.
This site aims to provide support to the Grampians Region through providing health professionals with an opportunity to share their knowledge and experience. This site will also provide a means for the results of any resources developed to be displayed and shared.
Health Service Providers of Emergency Care
Health care providers are located in most parts of the Grampians region. The 12 health services within the region provide acute care, aged care, primary health care and community services
There are two major health services located in the Region, Ballarat Health Services (Ballarat) and Wimmera Health Care Group (Horsham). Both of these health services have a dedicated emergency department with specialist nursing and medical staff available at all times to triage, assess, investigate and treat all categories of emergency and critical care presentations.
The other health service sites within the region have an emergency area or room. However, these emergency areas may be multipurpose and can be used for a variety of reasons. These emergency areas do not have dedicated nursing or medical staff. They offer triage and treatment by a registered nurse and/or GP. To ensure emergency care is provided when needed, staff are moved from their routine clinical duties (eg from the ward) or may be contacted at home when not working.
